Where Menzies Scholars Study at Harvard.

Since 1968, Menzies Scholars have studied at 9 of Harvard’s schools, from law and business to public health, design and physics. This page shows what each school offers and what past scholars took there.

Open to Any Field

The scholarship is offered in any field of study. What it requires is a place at Harvard. The Australian National University (ANU) administers the award for the Harvard Club of Australia, and its eligibility criteria ask that you have been admitted to a full-time, in-person graduate program at Harvard University.

The award is worth up to US$60,000 a year, or up to US$120,000 for a two-year degree. The amount is set in the letter of offer and depends on the financial aid you receive from Harvard.

The ANU lists the eligible levels of study as “Postgraduate/Masters, and Graduate certificate”. If you are considering a PhD, ask the ANU before applying.

The schools below are the ones past scholars chose, not a limit. Harvard’s full list of schools also includes Harvard Divinity School and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Schools and Degrees

103 Menzies Scholars from 1968 to 2026 studied at 9 Harvard schools. They are listed here by number of scholars.

Degree Abbreviations

These are the abbreviations used on the Honour Roll, what they stand for and which school awards them. Each description is of the program as the school offers it today. Programs have changed over the years, so a scholar’s degree may have been organised differently.

Before You Apply

Each school sets its own admission requirements and deadlines, so start with the school pages linked above. Engineering and applied sciences degrees (the PhD, S.M. and M.E.) are applied for through Harvard Griffin GSAS, which is why some engineering scholars appear under Arts and Sciences on the Honour Roll.

For the scholarship itself, read the ANU’s scholarship information and Conditions of Award, and send questions about eligibility to the ANU Coursework Scholarships Office. Want to hear what a program is like? Ask to talk with a past scholar. Planning ahead shows how Harvard’s published deadlines line up with the Menzies round.
