R.G. Menzies Scholarship to Harvard

A Year as aMenzies Scholar.

What happens from the offer to your return, stage by stage. It brings together the guides and the Conditions of Award, and gives no dates the sources don’t publish. Details vary by school, so check with your school’s international office.

From Offer to Return

  1. The offer

    Your letter of offer states the award’s value, which depends on any financial aid you receive from Harvard (clause 2). The award can’t be deferred (clause 7). The Harvard Club of Australia announces the scholars once they have accepted its terms.

  2. Before you leave

    Your Harvard school certifies your funding, and the Harvard International Office issues your Form I-20 or DS-2019. Then you pay the I-901 SEVIS fee and apply for your visa. The ANU works with you on the transfer of funds. Finding accommodation is your responsibility (clause 14). See After the offer.

  3. Arriving at Harvard

    F-1 students register with the Harvard International Office no later than 30 days after the program start date on their I-20. You are enrolled in the Harvard University Student Health Program automatically. See After the offer.

  4. During the year

    Keep a course load that meets your school’s requirements (clause 8). Tell the Harvard Club of Australia about any other scholarships you hold (clause 6). You may be asked to take part in publicity for the award (clause 15).

  5. End of each academic year

    Send the selection committee a progress report with an official statement of results (clause 8). If you don’t pursue your course for at least the first academic year, you may be asked to repay some or all of the award (clause 10). In a two-year degree, this stage comes round each year.

  6. Graduation and return

    The award is for applicants who intend to return to Australia after their studies at Harvard, or to work overseas in a role representing Australia (clause 3(g)).

  7. Staying involved

    Scholars are encouraged to stay involved with the scholarship throughout their careers. The scholar network lets you keep in touch and say whether you are happy to talk with applicants and new scholars.
